Reading - Several students have been recently taking tests on library books and guided reading books on the Accelerated Reader program. If your child is on a guided reading level of H or better they have been participating in this activity. The A.R. program checks students comprehension on the books they've read. It is recommended that students read their books at least a couple of times before taking a test. The teacher then monitors the tests to make sure the students are scoring a passing grade on the tests.
Math- For math we have been using Everyday Math Games in the computer lab. It reinforces the skills we've been learning about in our math program.
Science- In the next few weeks we will be covering the Foss unit- Pebble, Silt and Sand. Then in the last marking period we will studying ecology.
Social Studies-We have studied history for our past two units. We learned about famous Americans, holidays, heroes, landmarks, and symbols. We also learned about changes in schools, transportation, communities and technology. For the last marking period we will be covering two units of study: Unit 5- Meeting People-we will discuss different cultures and celebrations. Unit 6-The Marketplace-jobs people do and goods and services that people provide.
Writing-We have been learning about creating make-believe stories and using our imagination and exaggeration. We wrote Leprechaun stories as a springboard activity for make-believe. We have also been listening to Norman Bridwell stories about Clifford to learn about how to use exaggeration in our stories.
